The SEAPAX 50th Peace Corps Anniversary Committee met last weekend and has new information to share. We are now working on our publicity for the big March event , starting with the Peace Corps community, and going public. Here’s the latest update on how to get involved:
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Peace Corps, and the Seattle Area Peace Corps Association (SEAPAX) will commemorate the occasion with a major event at the Seattle Public Library on Sunday, March 20, 2011. If you are a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, former Peace Corps staff, family, or friend of the Peace Corps community, we want to hear from you. Here’s how you can help now:
Share a photo of yourself (either in black & white or color) taken your during Peace Corps service for a DVD slideshow that will be shown at the event. The photo display will include only images of individuals (but not names) along with their Peace Corps country and years/decade of service.
Especially needed are photos of those who served in the early decades of Peace Corps, during the 1960’s, ’70s, and ’80s.
How to submit photos:
Before sending actual photos, please contact Larry Kaye ( Cameroon ’89-’92) at: lrrkaye(at)gmail(dot)com for complete details on how to submit the photo electronically or as hard copy, and the SEAPAX usage guidelines.
Since photos from the early years predate the digital age, Larry can scan photos for inclusion on the DVD, and he will work with you on the necessary arrangements.
If you have an electronic version of your photo, it can be sent as an attachment to an email message, in .jpg, .bmp, or .png formats.
Let us know if you have items that you can loan for a Peace Corps display at the library. We are seeking items such as small artifacts, memorabilia, crafts, letters, training manuals and program materials, etc., from all past and present Peace Corps countries. Items will be displayed in locked cases in conjunction with the March event. For information about the displays, please contact Catherine Swanson (Samoa ’01-’03) at: vp (at)seapax (dot)org
If you need more information, have questions, or want to volunteer for the 50th Committee please contact: Joana Ramos ( Brazil ’73-’75), Chair of SEAPAX 50th Peace Corps Anniversary Committee, by email at: 50thchair(at)seapax(dot)org or by phone at 206-229-2420.
