The Emerald City has been chosen by the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) as one of the few cities to host a delegation of visitors from around the world as part of a special commemoration entitled The Spirit of Volunteersim: Honoring 50 years of the Peace Corps. Of the group of 26 guests who will visit Seattle, many have themselves worked with Peace Corps in their home countries. The World Affairs Council and Peace Corps’ Regional Recruitment Office will be coordinating the visit, which will take place between September 30- October 5. SEAPAX has been invited to participate in special events that are being planned, and we will need volunteers to assist.
While details are still being finalized, here’s how you can help now:
- Let me know if you served in China, Dominica, Kazakhstan, Kryrgyzstan, Micronesia, Namibia, Peru ( from 2006-) Romania, Rwanda, or Swaziland. Visitors coming from these countries have Peace Corps ties, and we are hoping to be able to put them together with RPCVs whom they may have known. If this applies to you, send me your years of service and location, and I will send you biographic information on the respective IVLP participant and put you in touch if applicable.
- October 1 will be community service day with guests and SEAPAX members. We anticipate that 2 service opportunities will be set up: outdoors and indoors. The outdoor project will be an EarthCorps volunteer event at José Rizal Park on Beacon Hill, for which you can sign up now at :http://www.earthcorps.org/volunteer.php?dateId=964
- October 4 is the date for a special program event at the UW for the Peace Corps community and the IVLP guests. Stay tuned for details.
