Why YOU Should Become a SEAPAX Board Member

Do you have an interest in non-profits? Want to get your feet wet with Board service? Enjoy meeting new RPCVs? Have a knack for organization or a passion for volunteerism? Do you enjoy staying in touch with Peace Corps through events and contacts?

If you can answer “yes” to any of those questions, I would like to encourage you to consider volunteering this year to be a SEAPAX Board or Committee member. This is an entirely volunteer-run organization, with a board made up of members who want to help keep a vibrant RPCV group in the Seattle area involved in the community. Consider taking a turn for a year as a board member.

This is a great opportunity for many reasons, including if you’ve ever been to an Eats Out dinner and made a connection with another RPCV, learned about a great new bar at a pub night, broke bread and shared a PC recipe at a potluck, found an apt, job posting, news article or an interesting event in the community via the listserv, felt reconnected with one of the most enlightening and exciting activities of your past, or made a friend through SEAPAX. This is a very collaborative organization and great opportunity for you to get more involved. If you’ve never served on a nonprofit board before or if you’ve been a part of one in the past, all are welcome and encouraged to participate. The Board is what keeps all this running for the members. There are also opportunities to be creative and plan events from any role, including Member at Large, Membership Coordinator, Service Events Chair or Newsletter Editor.

It’s a great opportunity to gain leadership experience or share the experience you already have, and would help keep SEAPAX strong for you and the other members who benefit from having this group around. We really need new members to step up and take part in shaping and running the group. There are also opportunities to help on committees (ie Grants, Summer Picnic, Campout) or one time event organizers (Pub Night, Eats Out, Potluck, Speaker/Movie Night, etc). We try and make sure that the time demands and any related stress remain low.

As you know, SEAPAX is part of the National Peace Corps Association, http://www.peacecorpsconnect.org/ and you will have the opportunity to help organize activities with the Western Regional network of RPCV groups, as well.

Please contact me at pres@seapax.org or via phone at 425.954.5427 if you have questions or if you would like to consider being a board member this year, or if you would like to help on a committee. Feel free to contact any other board member or check past activities on our website to learn more.

Remember, besides your own interest, you can nominate others, or talk someone else into sharing their skills and creativity with the greater community.

Our next meeting will include a chance to “meet the candidates” and learn more about opportunities with SEAPAX on Sunday, March
4th at 3 pm.
We hope to see you there!
